Jonathan Rockefeller is a renowned creator of film, theatre, television, puppetry, animation and episodic storytelling.

An Australian-born American with an extensive background in film and advertising, Jonathan founded Rockefeller Studios to create the highest quality family entertainment available, and to usher in a groundbreaking way for audiences to experience some of the world’s most beloved, iconic characters.

His Drama Desk and OBA nominated The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show - a stage adaptation of Eric Carle’s seminal work told with over 75 puppets - debuted to sell-out houses in Australia and New York. Chosen as a New York Times Critics’ Pick, Hungry Caterpillar has since become the #1 children’s show worldwide, performed in over 20 countries, with 10 productions simultaneously running at any time. The show has been performed before more than 3 million children and counting.

Since Hungry Caterpillar’s inception, Jonathan has gone on to introduce brand new stories to a global audience, showcasing storied IP in a fresh, thrilling, and imaginative manner. Additional theatrical projects include the unbridled slapstick comedy Paddington Gets in a Jam; the timeless adventures of Disney’s Winnie the Pooh: The New Musical Stage Adaptation; and the smash hit Sesame Street the Musical, marking the first stage production to feature The Muppets from Sesame Street.

Jonathan’s theatrical work has led him into even wider fields of entertainment. This is seen in his company, Rockefeller Sports & Events, partnering with TEG Live and Disney/Pixar for Pixar Putt - an 18-hole minigolf experience based on Pixar’s beloved filmography. The touring course continues to make its way across the United States and Canada. Jonathan has also created Snoopy Sports, an interactive installation based on Charles Schultz’s much-loved Peanuts characters, debuting in late 2023.

Jonathan’s work reflects his deep respect for artists and a belief in the creative spirit of collaboration. His productions strive to incorporate the work and creativity of every artist who brings them to them to life - whether onstage, onscreen or off. His creative philosophy is best summed up as a desire to share the stories and experiences he finds powerful, inspiring and joyful with audiences.
