This page is for the original manga series of the franchise. For other uses please see Sailor Moon (disambiguation)

"Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon" refers to the original manga release of Sailor Moon, which was written and illustrated by Naoko Takeuchi and published in Kodansha's Nakayoshi magazine between 1992 and 1997. This first edition, known as "Tankoubon," consisted of 18 volumes covering 52 acts, with volume 11 containing short stories that did not follow the main storyline. Starting from 2003, the series was re-released in Japan in a new format known as the "Renewal Edition" or "Shinsouban" (新装版; lit. "newly bound edition"); in this new edition, slight corrections were made to dialog and art. The new edition consisted of 12 volumes (each with new cover art) covering 60 acts, as well as two additional volumes separating the short stories from the main storyline.

An English translated version was produced by TokyoPop soon after the first Japanese edition. Additionally, the new re-release of the English translated version has been published by Kodansha Comics USA in 14 Volumes, starting September 13, 2011, under the new title, "Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon".

Naoko Takeuchi also released seven art-books containing art from the manga series, including the cover illustrations, pictures from the chapter heading pages, and other images of the characters.

As it was revealed in 2012, and confirmed on August 4, 2013, at the second 20th Anniversary, there was be information in the upcoming October 2013 Nakayoshi magazine about the brand new "Kanzanban" or complete edition of the Sailor Moon manga. For the 20th anniversary of the manga, there was another re-release, this one called the "complete edition" or "kanzenban" (完全版). This version again had new cover art, and the inside pages were digitally remastered, with color restored to pages that had been in color in the original Nakayoshi run, but not the subsequent tankoubon releases. The kanzenban edition was released in 10 volumes, plus two additional volumes including the Codename: Sailor V storyline. This version of the manga was released by Kodansha in English as the "Eternal Edition" beginning on September 11, 2018. In addition starting on July 1, 2019, the Sailor Moon manga was officially released in digital format for the first time when Kodansha released the Eternal Editions digitally which are also included on digital platforms such as ComiXology and Amazon Kindle. While the first four volumes were released together during the initial launch, the fifth volume's digital release was not done until October 15, 2019. However, starting from Volume 6, the release of the digital version of the Eternal Editions were not done alongside the physical releases

It has also been announced that two art books would be released sometime in late 2014 and that the art books would contain an original bonus item for each country's version.
